The glorious season of autumn donates unique colours and nuances to wedding events in Italy and especially in Umbria: the light is soft and the countryside is ablaze with warm and vibrant colours.

This is the atmosphere that set the tone at Rich-E and Joe’s wedding. They came from America to celebrate their wedding in the city of St. Francis: it is truly touching the spirit that moves some couples to seek a moment of celebration and unity with their family during their wedding event and a Church wedding in Assisi had been on their minds from the moment they decided to marry.

One year before their wedding, we accompanied this lovely young couple to visit reception locations in Umbria and it was inspiring to see how the choice of Church was equally important to them: they finally married at the majestic Santa Maria Maggiore, once the Cathedral of Assisi and the Church where St. Francis was baptised.

On the wedding day, the bride was chauffeured to the Church in a vintage, gold coloured Jaguar while the groom was escorted through the narrow lanes of the town by his best man and groomsmen who all rode iconic Italian Vespas! Five yellow Vespas sped in to the tiny square in front of the Church to the great surprise of the guests who had gathered outside before the ceremony. Don’t worry…the bride did not ride the Vespa back to the reception, rather, she and the groom stopped off to take some really romantic shots on the outskirts of Assisi – just a quiet half hour before getting back to the party.

The reception took place in the beautiful Castello di Petrata from where the guests enjoyed a privileged view of the city of Assisi. The rich Italian Buffet was served on the magnificent terraced garden of the Castello: the late afternoon atmosphere was soft and mellow and as the mist began to rise from the valley and the late autumn sun began to set, we invited this merry group to make their way indoors for the wedding banquet.

The dining hall was decorated in seasonal tones and we used moss green, warm tones of brick-red and ochre: clear glass candlesticks and other accessories in various tones of green were used to adorn the table and party area: the final effect was warm and welcoming!

Our warmest wishes to this beautiful couple!
